Metal Fixings make Visitor Passes Attractive for Food Industry

The safety of food products is one of the top priorities for consumers and governments worldwide. Originally developed and published in 1998, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standards specify safety, quality and operational criteria for food producers and suppliers. Used worldwide, BRC standards are accepted by many of the world’s largest retail groups, manufacturers and food service organisations - providing an international mark of excellence for the certificate holder.

The standards offer detailed best practice guidance on quality, safety and operational principles across food manufacturing processes. SG World's products help food producers incorporate some of this guidance into their operations. For example Section 4 of the standard deals with the detection and removal of foreign bodies from the production process. Typical equipment will include metal detection and magnets.

4.10.3.1 Metal detection equipment shall be in place unless risk assessment demonstrates that this does not improve the protection of final products from metal contamination.

Further to this production staff are also required to use a specific type of plaster for a cut or graze, as well as needing to be a different colour from the product (preferably blue), it should also contain a metal detectable strip.

This same principle applies to visitor and staff ID which is why, as part of its visitor management range, SG World offers a large variety of pass wallets, holders, clips and lanyards with metal based fixings.

We also offer metal detectable badge holders to ensure that any broken or lost badge holders can be detected in a food production environment. During the manufacturing process, stainless steel filings are added to the badge holders which is what makes them easily locatable by metal detectors. SG World can also provide ID Card Holders with an anti-microbial additive to help prevent the spread of bacteria.
