South Cheshire Chamber Recognises SG World’s Commitment to Home-Grown Talent

We were delighted to open the latest South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce magazine and see a feature on our work with apprenticeships. The article, titled "Investing in People: How SG World nurtures talent through Apprenticeships", highlights our long-standing commitment to developing local talent.

It's fantastic to have this approach recognised, and we wanted to share some of the highlights from the article.

Our Approach to Apprenticeships

At SG World, we have a clear and simple strategy for apprenticeships. We aim to give young people the chance to build a career that combines practical, on-the-job learning with formal education. For many, this is a powerful alternative to the traditional university route, allowing them to gain qualifications and experience without accumulating tens of thousands of pounds of debt.

We offer opportunities across the entire business, not just in traditional "blue-collar" roles. You'll find apprentices working and learning in our

Marketing, Sales, Finance, IT, and PA teams.

We're often asked why we invest so much in training people who might eventually leave. Our CEO, Mark Haase, has the perfect answer:

"It's not the training them and then the possibility of them leaving us that worries me, it's the not developing them and they end up staying!"

This philosophy creates a "win-win" situation. The apprentice builds a long-term career in a role of their choosing, and SG World benefits from a skilled, valued employee who understands the business inside and out.

Meet Our Success Stories

The proof of our approach is in the incredible people who have built their careers with us. The Chamber article highlighted two fantastic examples: Beth Cann and Robbie Ransley.

Beth Cann – Group Financial Controller

Beth joined SG World as an apprentice in our Finance department and is now our

Group Financial Controller and a qualified Accountant.

"Completing an Apprenticeship is possibly the best decision I've ever made, followed by the move to SG World... The growth and development I have experienced at SG World has meant that I have moved through roles within the business and have worked my way into the role of Financial Controller in less than 10 years."

Robbie Ransley – Technical Infrastructure Lead

Robbie started his career via an IT apprenticeship and has recently celebrated his 10-year anniversary with the company. He is now our Technical Infrastructure Lead.

"Ten years in the business has flown and, in that time, I've learned a lot with the courses that I've completed, experiences that I've built up and friendships that I've made here. I hope to be here for a long time going forward."

And our investment is ongoing. We’re excited to have recently welcomed three new apprentices to the SG World team: Owen (Purchasing Apprentice), Lily (PA Apprentice) and Lucy (Finance Apprentice). We look forward to supporting them as they begin their careers with us.

A Long-Term Commitment

As Mark concludes in the article, we are fully committed to the apprenticeship route. We have faith that the people who join us on this journey will become a huge asset both to themselves and to SG World.
