This is the moment the scaffolding crew leaves the site and the bricklayers or painters move in. Without a formal transfer of responsibility, the scaffolding contractor often remains the first person the HSE looks at when something goes wrong. ## The Legal Value of a Handover Certificate A Scaffold Handing Over Certificate is your most important piece of business protection. It serves as a formal "receipt" for the structure. It confirms: - The scaffold is safe for use and compliant with regulations at the time of transfer. - Limitations of use are explicitly stated. - The scaffold was built to a recognised standard like TG20:21. - The client has accepted the structure in its current state. - The responsibility for the 7-day inspection cycle has been clearly assigned. ## The Financial Risk of Poor Documentation Average fines for scaffolding safety breaches now frequently exceed £15,000 per offence. The Sentencing Council's Health and Safety Offences Guidelines state that fines are based on turnover and the potential for harm. You do not even need an accident to occur to be hit with a massive fine. You just need to show a "risk of harm" through poor documentation. Protect your business and your reputation.
